Carriage Mounted Spreader Bars - This type of mast has three parts as the name implies. The outside section is attached firmly to the lift vehicle. The next section telescopes within the mounted outside part and the internal most part telescopes within the middle part. Both the middle and the internal section elevate and the lift cylinders extend. Once again in this model, the fork carriage rides in the interior part. The 3 stage mast provides a shorter lowered height than the 2 stage mast. The common usage of the 3 stage mast is in areas like for example doorways where overhead clearances are limited. This mast is often equipped with a center cylinder so as to let the fork carriage raise some distance before the mast parts commence extension.
There are two main sections in a 2 Stage Mast. The external part of the mast is affixed to the lift vehicle. The internal part sits within the outer part and raises as the cylinders extend. The fork carriage is situated in the inner section. This mast type has a taller lowered height compared to an equivalent lift height quad mast or 3 stage mast.
